Contains correspondence, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, and printed materials dating primarily from the 1950s through the 1980s. Includes correspondence with other physicians, FDA officials, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and Congressional staff. The series document his involvement with research in anesthetic drugs and equipment; his consulting on drugs for pharmaceutical companies; his work with the FDA and the AMA on drug evaluations; his support of nurse anesthetists; his involvement with many societies and associations; his teaching; his management of Charity Hospital (where he served as an associate director); his testimony and advice in malpractice and other legal cases; and his active career as a writer and editor.

The Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, was founded as L'Hôpital des Pauvres de la Charité in 1736, the bequest of shipbuilder Jean Louis. Subsequent buildings were erected in 1743, 1785, 1815, 1832, and 1939. The hospital, which was the city's only facility for the mentally ill until a state asylum opened in 1848, admitted men, women, and children throughout the 1840s. Anesthetist, educator and drug consultant. After receiving his M.D. from College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1934, he spent five years at Bellevue Hospital. In 1941 he joined Charity Hospital in New Orleans where he spent the rest of his career. Also served on the faculty of Tulane University and LSU, and served as a consultant to the FDA and the AMA.
